This used to be a Degrassi confessions kind of blog, but that kind of failed, so now I'm just going to write whatever I want about Degrassi, so hi.

I'm just a typical college girl who's been watching Degrassi for a decade. I'm always up for talking, so feel free to message me.

I think Degrassi needs a depression plot. Not depression triggered by something, but just a student with clinical depression. Not one that self-harms, but just struggles with negative emotions and sadness.

It’s such a common ailment, it would make sense for Degrassi.

I have to agree! This kind of goes along with what I was writing about earlier in response to the confession about bipolar disorder.

It would be nice to see depression depicted in some way on Degrassi. Again, I know that it’s not super great for TV, but I think that it’d be a good thing to portray and bring awareness to. A lot of people could relate to it.

I agree that it would be great to have a real clinical depression plot…not depression in response to something. Clinical depression. Major depressive disorder. It’d be nice to see it portrayed!

whathefucktate:

Everybody is so quick to take Katie’s side, what if Drew dumps her before he goes back to Bianca? We all know that was bound to happen.

I know!

A few days ago I wrote about being irritated by everyone always blaming the “other woman.”

We don’t know anything about the turns this love triangle has taken yet. Maybe Drew initiated everything with Bianca. Maybe Bianca initiated everything with Drew. Regardless, they’re both mutually consenting and involved, so why put all of the blame on Bianca? She’s not some seductress who has complete and total power over Drew. She’s just a girl…a pretty and charming girl who has a past with Drew, but she’s just a girl. She can’t make him do anything he doesn’t want to do. Drew isn’t exactly a nice guy and hasn’t proven to be much beyond a jerk throughout his run on the show, and Katie has been a pretty terrible person to many characters on the show too. I really don’t understand why he gets the free pass, why Katie gets the victim card, and Bianca is demonized.

It takes two to tango. Drew is as responsible as Bianca, but he actually owes more to Katie. Bianca doesn’t owe Katie anything.

I don’t have bipolar disorder, so I can’t really say anything for sure, but I don’t think that they’ve misrepresented the disorder too badly. I wish that they would show the depressive states better, though. It seems like they focus so much on the manic phases and just generally making these two characters seem “crazy.” It’d be nice if they’d give more focus to the depression…as it’s often a big part of bipolar disorder. A lot of people with bipolar disorder only ever have a couple of manic phases.
I am pretty okay with Craig’s diagnosis of bipolar disorder, but again, I wish we’d gotten to see more of the depression. Instead we mostly just saw anger and him being manic (which was portrayed pretty well, I think). There just wasn’t much of a range.
I’ve stated before that I think that a Borderline Personality Disorder diagnosis would’ve been better for Eli (and it would’ve been nice of them to depict another mental illness and bring awareness to BPD). Bipolar disorder is an okay fit, I guess, but like I said before with Craig…I just hope that they’ll show the depression more. Bipolar disorder is about highs (mania) and lows (depression), and they seem to focus way more on the highs. I guess mania makes for better TV, but it’s not super realistic to make these characters be super “crazy” every time there’s a storyline about their disorder.

I don’t really think that he’s grown that much anyway, but I definitely agree with the last sentiment.

hmm, unfortunately, I’m still getting the “overabundance of relationship stuff” vibes (Katie/Drew/Bianca, Maya/new guy, possibly Adam/Becky + all of the remaining couples: Eclare, Mo/Marisol, etc.) so far, but I will try to reserve judgment until season 12 airs
I just hope that they’ll strike a good balance in this season and not have it be so heavily weighed down by boring relationships

omg are there even any characters or ships you like?? lol

Sure, plenty.

There are tons from the TNG days (JT, Liberty, Toby, Ellie, Emma, Marco, Sean, Manny, Jimmy, Terri, Spinner… Jiberty, Semma, Sellie…) that I’ve liked.

There are seemingly fewer characters and couples that I like in the current/newer seasons, but I still like some. I really like Eli, Wesley, Clare, Fiona, Connor, and Jake, and I’ve definitely warmed up a lot to Bianca, Holly J, and Imogen. As for couples, I liked Wesley/Hannah a lot, I like Eclare for the most part, and I don’t mind Fimogen so far.

Bhandurner?

I’m not a huge Bhandurner fan, to be honest, but I don’t really actively dislike them or cringe at them either.

Dave has had some redeeming moments and qualities, but overall, I think that he treats people kind of badly to get what he wants. Maybe it’s because he’s insecure (probably), maybe it’s because he enjoys it, but regardless, he treats people badly to get what he wants, and it makes it hard for me to like him very much.

I like Alli more than I like Dave, but I just have never been a huge Alli fan. I want to like her, I really do, but it’s hard for me to like her because she keeps doing the same things that get her into trouble…and she NEVER learns from them. Almost everything she does is sneaky and sometimes dangerous, and she just never seems to learn. She’s definitely been burned before (by Johnny and by Drew), but I just wish that she’d take more control of her life. I’m sure that she has always felt trapped by her strict family, but I just want better for her, haha. I just would like her to carve out her own path in a healthy, non-destructive sort of way.

As for Alli and Dave together…I’ve never gotten into it. I don’t know why, really. You just feel drawn to certain characters/couples and repelled by others. I don’t see Alli and Dave as very stable together. Their communication isn’t great even when they try. Their relationship started off with Dave being kind of shady and sneaky about it. He’d had feelings for Alli off and on for so long, but eventually he started dating Sadie, but he wasn’t honest with her and didn’t seem to respect her enough to be honest with her.

I can’t remember the ins and outs of their specific friendship and evolution into relationship, but it seemed like Alli liked to play hard to get and Dave didn’t like to be very honest and participated in some odd gray area cheating. It all seems kind of immature, but I probably shouldn’t single them out since most high school relationships are immature.

Apart from all of the boring technical details which I’ve shared, I just have never been drawn to them for whatever reason like I said before. *shrug* They’re not the worst but they’re certainly not a favorite. They’ve had some decent moments, but overall I’m not super fond of either character, which makes it hard for me to care too deeply about this couple.

how do you feel about owen? idk if i've ever seen you write about him

Honestly…I really don’t like Owen and I find the entire Owen/Anya ship really gross. I’m not judging people who like Owen or ship them, but I just really hope that you don’t apply the principles behind their relationship to your real lives. :/ I am really not trying to dictate which characters and couples you can or can’t like, as it’s totally your right and I wouldn’t want anyone saying to me, for example, “I don’t like Jiberty so you shouldn’t either!” but I just have some real problems with Owen and Owen/Anya. Again, I don’t have anything against anyone who likes Owen or Owen/Anya.

Basically, the Owen/Anya relationship says that it’s okay for a guy (in this case, but it could go both ways) to harass a girl and make her uncomfortable as long as he likes her, and I definitely don’t think that is a healthy or good way of going about things in any capacity (whether it’s a girl harassing another girl, a guy harassing another guy, a guy harassing a girl, or a girl harassing a guy).

I don’t remember all of the specifics since I haven’t seen these episodes in a while, but basically Owen and Anya slept together when Anya was feeling really vulnerable, right? If my memory serves me correctly, she’d just been more or less rejected by Dr. Chris and was feeling really low? As far as we could tell (again, if memory serves me right), their hook-up was consensual, but it just made me feel gross. Owen had been preying on Anya for a while, bothering her and harassing her and making her feel uncomfortable, and then trying that again when she was at a REALLY vulnerable and low spot, and basically she just ended up giving in? Afterwards there was all of that crap with him airing their personal lives on Facebook, which bothered Anya (and rightly so), and she still went with him, and I just think that sends a pretty crappy message to the audience, which is comprised of a LOT of young and impressionable people.

Like I said before, their ship basically says that it’s okay for someone to keep harassing another person, making them feel uncomfortable as long as they like that person, and then eventually the harassed person will just give in, and I just have a lot of obvious problems with that.

I don’t like Owen for reasons apart from Owen/Anya as well. He just strikes me as a dumb jerk, to put it really bluntly. He’s a homophobe and just one of those typical stupid meat-head types, and I just rarely like characters like that for, again, obvious reasons and because they tend to be lacking in any sort of depth.

It has always baffled me why so many people like Owen and Owen/Anya. Again, you’re all entitled to like whichever characters and couples that you want, but it is just something that has always thrown me off! Oh well.

I’m just feeling like I can’t even have an opinion until we see more of Zig. Out of all of the new niners, they’ve really shown him the least. Maya got to have her own storyline, Tristan got to have a nice moment with Adam, Tristan/Tori have gotten to show a bit of their friendship, and Tori has gotten to interact with a variety of people. Zig really was just there right away to talk to Maya and then again a little later to skateboard. I don’t have a feel for him at all right now. Is he nice? Rude? Arrogant? Sensitive? Shy? Loud? Funny? Boring? I really have no idea.
